Merrick Sponsors International Book Festival

Merrick Real Estate has sponsored the internationally renowned Wigtown Book Festival (http://www.wigtownbookfestival.com) which was held from 22nd to 1st October 2017. The literary and cultural gathering is held every year in Wigtown south west Scotland and sees participation from a wide cross-section of well known authors, journalists, and artists. Merrick sponsored the talk by Paul Laverty who grew up in Wigtown and is now a renowned film script and screenplay writer. Paul worked as a human rights lawyer in Nicaragua before penning his first screenplay, Carla’s Song, for the director Ken Loach. Since then he worked with Ken on numerous films including My Name Is Joe and Sweet Sixteen, winner of the Best Screenplay at Cannes. His latest film, I, Daniel Blake, won Outstanding British Film at the Baftas. Merrick also sponsored for the Festival Ceilidh which ended the festival in traditional Scottish style.In addition to attending the festival, Merrick’s guests also took time out to enjoy the stunning local Galloway scenery, a visit to the Crafty Gin distillery in Newton Stewart, dinner at a top local restaurant.
