Merrick Real Estate joined the celebrations at the Wigtown Book Festival in Galloway, south west Scotland which was held from 27th September to 6th October.
Merrick has been an event sponsor of this leading literary event for the last 3 years.
Wigtown is a traditional market town, set in the beautiful countryside of Dumfries & Galloway, south-west Scotland.
It is also Scotland’s National Book Town, a designation that reflects its dozen or so secondhand bookshops and annual literary festival, has an increasing global reputation.
Founded in 1999, the 10-day Wigtown Book Festival is now one of the UK’s best-loved literary festivals.
This year saw more than 200 events and activities for all ages, including music, theatre, food and visual arts.

Jackie Morris – the Lost Words
Merrick sponsored ‘The Lost Words’ presented Jackie Morris, the well known writer and illustrator.
When Jackie heard about the removal of words such as kingfisher, bramble, and acorn from a junior dictionary, she had to act. The result was The Lost Words, her award-winning, beautiful collaboration with Robert Macfarlane. She talked about our relationship to the natural world under threat, a subject she has also written about in the introduction to the lost childhood classic The House Without Windows. Musical support was provided by Beth Porter of The Lost Words: Spell Songs project (The Lost Words) and The Bookshop Band (The Bookshop Band).
The Grey Man of Merrick
The Merrick team attending consisted of Mark Norris (Managing Director), Mike Plummer (Development Director) and Mark Johnstone (Investment Director) and took time out for a hike into the Galloway hills to visit the icon of the Company’s logo (The Grey Man of Merrick!) and an overnight stay in a Galloway ‘bothy’ with food, wine …and story telling.
